Microlink Solutions Chairman and Former Chief Justice YABhg Tun Arifin bin Zakaria has been conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Law by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

 

The award, which was presented to Tun Arifin at the 33rd IIUM Convocation held recently, was given in recognition of his significant contributions towards the many improvements made in Malaysia’s legal system. He was also recognised for sharing his knowledge and expertise both locally and abroad.

 

Tun Arifin, who served 25 years in the judiciary, joined the civil service as a legal officer in the Prime Minister’s Department over 40 years ago before becoming a magistrate in 1976. He was the Perak State Legal Advisor in 1988 before becoming a Judicial Commissioner in 1992 and a High Court Judge in 1994.

 

He was appointed Court of Appeal Judge in 2002, Federal Court Judge in 2005 and Chief Judge of Malaya in 2008.

In September 2011, he was appointed as the 13th Chief Justice of Malaysia, replacing Tun Zaki Azmi. He stepped down from his role in March 2017 and was appointed as Microlink Independent Non-Executive Chairman in June 2017.
